New Year 2016. Stop doing these things!

Hey guys, HAPPY 2016!!! Do you guys have fun in 2015? I bet that each and every one who is reading this post are recalling the memories they have right now. No matter it is sorrow, joyous or heart-aching, let it be the lessons in your life and start a brand new you!!

As for a new year, I wish to re-edit my blog into a brand new site. I'll be writing and posting about the journey I had in Form 6 which already happened in 2014 and 2015. Stay tuned for more.

People always says new year, brand new you. However, exactly how many are there that do really succeed in changing themselves into a better person? It is actually quite hard for one to do so. Most of us did say want to do so, but in the end, it all comes back to the initial point.

You want some real-life examples? Leaders all around the world are the exact examples. They always promise to give us a better life, a better living conditions, better earnings and other stuffs. Well, it all seems too good to be true. After some time, they tend to forget what they promised and what left is just the disappointments of the people living under their leadership.

As for myself, I do always have some qualities I wish to have and bad habits I want to get rid of. But in the end, I went back to the same person I am last year. Total failure you see.

After failing for 15 attempts, I decided to stop doing so, starting this year. To me, it is totally useless if you want to change yourself, after all, you are what you are known of. You can't just say "Oh, I want to be ............, I'll just have to do this, that........." It is not an easy job at all.

For instance, you want to be able to control your emotions, but can you ensure that you can control your temper when someone just get on your nerves, doing somethings that is a pain in your eyes? I bet Anger in the headquarter of your mind cannot stay idle and you would probably just go mad, yelling here and there. That's not what the aim you started in the beginning of the year.

What I want to say is that you can start a list you want to do, but not in the aspect of character. Everyone is unique and you cannot be others and others cannot be you.

In a brand new year, things you can do includes:

1.  Do not put too many plans in your planner.

DO NOT EVER TRY TO DO SO! IF YOU ARE TO DISOBEY, DO AT YOUR OWN RISK. There's a saying in Chinese, plans you had will always being interrupted by sudden events. Plans are good for time management, but too much does not mean good thing at all either. Try making plans for only a month in each start of the month.

For example, you make plans only for January during January and put only the things you want to have in that month. This is a good way to organise yourself and you are more prepared to face any emergency if anything happens. If the events you had are interrupted, try arrange it to another day in that particular month of put a reminder to keep you remember or bring forward to other month.
Only put special events like birthdays and anniversaries in your whole-year planner. If you want to go for vacation, it is okay to plan earlier (1 or 2 months before the real deal).

2. Stop saying you want to change. Try something else instead.

Trust me, it is not going to work if you are trying to say so. Many of us have the intention to resist themselves from continuously doing their bad habits but somehow it all comes back to the starting point and in the end, nothing much change.

Instead of saying you want to change. Try something else. Do something you rarely do. To me, doing something you rarely do keeps your mind fully alert. You will have higher concentration in doing these things as it is considered the "non-familiar activities". It may be a challenge to do it frequently but if you are able to continue this, you will finally realise you have cultivated a new interest. Isn't that awesome!

I used to be an eater and not the person who cooks. However, due to family reasons, I have to start learning how to cook. It was hard initially but I am happy that I am able to prepare a few simple dishes to my family and help my mum in the kitchen.

How can a new interest gives rise to good qualities? In my opinion (not scientifically proven yet), the new interest you have will not only encourage you to do it more often, but also shape you with better character. Using the above example, cooking makes you become more creative.Well, we cannot cook the same dishes everyday, everyone needs different nutrients. So, we are required to prepare dishes we never make before. We will look through many recipes and make our own "Special Edition Dish". The creativity will be applied in our daily life as well. And finally, you will slowly become creative in other aspect as well.

In short, doing something you rarely do not just helps you cultivate a new interest, but also helps in shaping your new character. Do it now, or your bad habits will just stick around you like elephant glue.

3. Have positive thoughts.

Yes, I heard you. New year means going back to school/work and less (perhaps no) holiday. And schools in Malaysia reopen on Monday. Who doesn't hate Monday? It's Monday Blues day!!!!

You can have that thought, but don't let it influence you until the disastrous stage. You have to think positive! I know it is hard to do so, especially coming back from an amazing holiday. Don't let the negative emotions blind you!

Back to the main point, think or do something that cheer you up. For example, try greeting yourself in front of the mirror every morning and smile to yourself. It's the primary step to make your day an enjoyable one. Eat something you like during breakfast! Greet your neighbours (even if they didn't greet back).

When you are stuck in a traffic congestion, wind the car windows up. Turn on the radio to your favourite radio channel and listen to the songs you love. Sing out loud! Shake it off! (Haters are going to hate what you do anyway)

When you're in school, find your buddies. Share your stories with them and they will do the same! If you are a freshman, find a spot you like, sit back and relax. Be yourself and your new friends will come to you.

What is the conclusion here? Simple, be positive that everything is going nice and smooth and you will have a perfect day ahead.

New year can be a great thing to celebrate yourself. New year does not necessary have to be a celebration with your family and friends, it can also means to celebrate yourself for working hard in a year and it signifies a new chapter of your life. Go and have a wonderful adventure. You may face many obstacles throughout this new year, no matter grievous or joyous, be sure to love yourself and your families and friends!

HAVE A GREAT NEW YEAR!
